De-Assign From Container
The Repository Option De-Assign From Container removes the Volume from its' assigned Container on Confirmation into this Repository.
De-Assign From Container Options
True: Removes Volume from its' assigned Container.False: Does not remove Volume from its' assigned Container.
De-Assign From Container automatically removes a volume from its container when the volume is confirmed into the repository.
Example:
- Tape 000123L8 is assigned to container BOX001.
- The tape is moved to repository LIBR.
- LIBR has De-Assign From Container = True.
- When the tape is confirmed at LIBR, its assignment to BOX001 is removed.
| Setting | When the volume is confirmed |
|---|---|
| False | The volume remains assigned to its container |
| True | The volume is removed from its container |
Important distinctions:
- It takes effect when the volume is confirmed, not merely placed into a move.
- It de-assigns the confirmed volume; it does not automatically empty every other tape from that container.
- It does not delete the container.
- It does not move the container or its other contents.
This is useful for a destination where tapes are routinely unpacked—for example, a library receiving tapes from transport boxes.
The related Empty Container option is broader: it removes all volume assignments from a container when the applicable confirmation occurs
